Rest In Peace, the final good byes and what not has to be said to 2K Australia as the Canberra-based studio has shut it’s door.
It was first reported on Kotaku Australia and then confirmed by 2K just earlier.
The news is shocking as that studio was the force behind Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, BioShock 2 and The Bureau: XCOM Declassified among others.
2K released a statement saying
We can confirm we have taken steps to begin the studio closure process for 2K Australia in order to better manage ongoing development costs while improving the working proximity of our creative teams. We are very grateful for the team’s valuable contributions to numerous 2K projects, and are working with affected staff to explore reassignment opportunities where possible.
It’s confirmed the studio staff are being let go but we hope they find different studios to work on much more incredible games.
It’s also safe to note that 2K Australia is shutting down because of operating close in Canberra and not because of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel sales. 2K main headquarters even had plans to move 2K Australia from Canberra to Melbourne but decided against it and ultimately close it’s offices.
